Come experience sailing … on land … in a blokart! Blokart sailing is fun, fast and addictive. A blokart is a 3-wheel kart with a sail. There is no motor, all the power comes from the wind filling the sail.
Is it difficult to learn to sail a blokart?
Nope. It’s super easy! If you have some sailing experience you will take to it in minutes. It is the same principle as sailing on water only easier and quicker. If you have never sailed before you should still be able to pick it up very quickly (5-10 minutes). We’ll give you full instructions and safety briefing when you are issued your safety equipment. Then we’ll go over it again on the track before you sail. Our instructors are always available to provide help and advice.
How fast do they go?
This really depends on the conditions and how fast you want to go. You have complete control of your speed. With a nice breeze, you can get along at around 30-40 kph. With stormy conditions, you can reach speeds closer to 60 kph. The current blokart speed record is 125 kph (on a dry lake in Nevada, USA).
What if the weather is bad?
If the wind is blowing it is a good day! Blokarts only need the slightest of breeze. However, in the unlikely event that there is absolutely no wind at all on your rental day, give us a call prior to coming out. We have a range of sails for most conditions but if the wind is too light to make it fun, or too strong for safe sailing, we may temporarily close the blokart track. A postponement or refund will be made if the weather prohibits us from sailing.
How safe are blokarts?
Assuming you follow instructions and use a little common sense they are very safe. They are probably the safest sail sport on the planet! The instructors will size your sail based on the conditions, your size, and experience. If you are a little nervous just tell the instructor and they will set-up your kart with a smaller sail.
Who can sail?
This is a sport that is suitable for the whole family. Generally, children from 8 years old can sail by themselves. There is NO upper age limit for those young at heart! We have a shadow kart available for kids between ages 3 and 8 to ride with an adult. Let’s talk about it if you have a medical condition that you think may interfere with safe sailing.
